Africa Reinvented (large) made by Keri Muller (simpleintrigue.com)
This African art piece is called 'Africa Reinvented' and is made from old paperbacks salvaged from the recycling pile. I source these books and buy them via the CAFDA charity bookstores. They are donated thousands of books each year and cannot sell all of them so many paperback novels they sell to the recyclers. This is where I come in and buy books as well.
Tons of books get pulped every year or just dumped in a landfill. Through using them and turning them into African art pieces I hope to give these books a chance to tell another story. Each book page is folded individually creating the interesting shapes and patterns. I then cut the books to different sizes and glue them onto a piece of rigid board. This has a sturdy hook on the back for hanging the African art piece on the wall. Each one is signed and dated.
Please note: Each African art piece is made individually and as such will not look exactly the same - colour, shape and heights of the books used will vary. The sculpture is available in 3 sizes detailed below. We do also make a very large sizes on commission.
How to look after your African art sculpture: Regular dusting is advised. The Africa is made with old books and as such the books do continue to change colour over time due to being exposed to the light.
